The sea is a mystical resource, tying together the land masses of earth with waves that come crashing to shore.
I’ve been attracted to surf for years, watching the sea meet the beach along the California coast. But I had never seen anything like we witnessed on Maui’s Honalua Bay – waves cresting at 25 feet or more with surfers searching for the perfect entry point.
Our vantage point was spectacular, high atop a cliff overlooking the bay. It was a full frame experience with my Nikkor 70-300mm VR on a Nikon D300 – 1/1000 at f10, ISO250. It was enough to capture this surfer riding his board tail on the aquamarine wave as it crashed to shore.
