There’s good reason to be up pre-dawn to be on a mountain top at sunrise!
On this late October morning, weather was crisp with just a touch of haze. As I made my way to the top of the Rettenbach Glacier high above Soelden, Austria, the sunrise pastels framed the Italian Dolomites nearly a hundred miles away, with each successive mountain range from Austria over to Italy taking on a mystical aura.
I’ve been atop this glacier a dozen times and have never seen such vivid color or distinctness to the jagged peaks in Italy some distance away.
